Visitor classification according to Argentine regulations

The Argentine government classifies visitors into two groups regarding the temporary importation of firearms:

  1. Hunters visiting Argentina for the first time (with or without firearms previously).
  1. Hunters who have visited Argentina before.

Depending on your classification, the requirements and procedures may vary. Below, we detail the specific steps for each case.

Requirements for hunters visiting Argentina for the first time

  • Copy of Passport: A passport copy is required for document presentation at the airport.
  • Importer’s Guarantee: A guarantor is assigned to ensure the firearms leave the country after the stay.
  • ANMAC (Agencia Nacional de Materiales Controlados) Hunting Form: This document is completed and paid for upon arrival at the airport.
  • Customs Guarantee Form: This document is presented at the airport when entering with the firearm.

Requirements for hunters who have visited Argentina before

  • Consular Permit: Must be processed in person at the Argentine consulate in the country of origin before travel.
  • Copy of Passport: Required for presentation at the airport.
  • Importer’s Guarantee: A similar process to that of new visitors, ensuring the firearm’s exit from the country.
  • ANMAC Hunting Form: Submitted and paid upon arrival in Argentina.
  • Customs Guarantee Form: Presented at the airport when entering the country.

Exemptions from the consular permit

Over/under or side-by-side shotguns with barrels longer than 24 inches are exempt from the Consular Permit in all cases. However, hunters bringing pump-action or semi-automatic shotguns on their second or subsequent visit will require this permit.

Firearm declaration and permit payment

All firearms must be declared, and the corresponding permits must be purchased upon arrival in Argentina. The payment must be made in cash per firearm (it is recommended to inquire via email in advance for updated costs). In the case of firearms with interchangeable barrels or additional barrel sets, each will be considered a separate firearm and charged accordingly.

The information provided in the shooting questionnaire will be used for the firearm entry permit, and authorities will carefully review these details upon arrival. To avoid delays, it is crucial that the information is clear and accurate. Additionally, upon departure from the country, firearms will be inspected again, and the corresponding documentation must be stamped by authorities. It is important to note that fees are subject to change without prior notice.

Additional details on requirements

  • Passport: A copy will be requested upon arrival at the airport, so it is recommended to send it in advance to expedite the process.
  • Importer’s Guarantee: Each temporary firearm importation requires the assignment of a guarantor who certifies that the firearm will leave the country after the stay.
  • ANMAC: If you prefer to download and complete the ANMAC form yourself, you can do so through their official website.
  • Consular Information: The Consular Permit is mandatory for those who have previously visited Argentina. It is necessary to appear in person at the corresponding consulate to process it, except for residents of Atlanta, who are exempt from this requirement.
